Because of popular demand – I introduce Dr. Marv’s Scientific Benchstones.
Feedback is very slick – but if you own one of my stone sets, you know that. It is super homogenous, so while you probably will have to adapt your freehand sharpening technique, the results are worth having an open mind!
- Custom Order – Dr. Marv’s Scientific Benchstones
- Stone Size: 200 x 80 mm, Aluminium base thickness 20 mm.
- Thickness of the abrasive: At least 4 mm
- Concentration of the superabrasive: min. 50% of weight
- Contamination free, factory dressed and ready to use.
- Orders are custom made and shipped within 4-6 weeks. I will get in touch via email to confirm grain size and thickness.
- Possible Grain sizes:
- Diamond, 80 / 60 / 40 / 20 / 10 / 5 / 2.5 µm
- Diamond 300, 150, 1 and 0.1 possible, but much more expensive. Reach out via email to me.
- CBN 80, 40, 20, 5, 2.5 possible, but longer leadtime & much more expensive. Reach out via email to me to discuss your needs. Note: I consider diamond to be the higher performing choice, always.
Comes in a nice storage box. No returns as it is a custom made product.
As this is a handmade product, some small blemishes such as tiny bubbles, scratches or imperfections are to be expected. I can promise that they do not subtract from the performance of the sharpening stones!

Wow, when I thought it couldn’t get any better, Dr. Marv agreed to produce some bench stones. I have an 80µm, 60µm, 40µm and 20µm stones. They are spectacular. They exhibit all the characteristics of the 1×6 stones in a bench stone format. The slippery feedback won’t be to everyone’s liking but these high diamond concentration stones cut like no others, shed the swarf with a drip or two of oil and produce a surface that has to be experienced to be believed. I encourage you to look at the photos available on the blog. The deep scratches so prevalent with other stones, whether EP diamond plates or resin bonded vitreous stones just aren’t there. I believe the meticulous care Dr Marv takes for purity of the diamonds/CBN, the lack of any other particles in the resin binder and the manufacturing process gives this result. You really have to experience these stones, they have worked miracles on my Magnacut, MagnaMax mule, Maxamet, ZDP189, White 1 & 2, Hap40 & Rex121 Nakiri’s and Gyutos, and all my hard & soft steel Spyderco & other folders. Plus, because they cut the steel vice push it at a microscopic level they work equal wonders on softer stainless and carbon steels minimizing the traditionally troublesome burrs. They provide a new level of burr suppression and sharpening performance on the complete gamut of steels you can encounter. Get’em while they are hot.
